Dr Mark Matthews

B.A. (Hons). M.Sc. D. Phil

Mark Matthews is a strategy advisor to governments, universities and non-profit organisations. His remit spans diagnostic assessments of organisational capability, innovation strategy work,  investment appraisal and evaluations, ‘uncertainty aware’ risk management methods, executive education and top-level executive search (via representing RLCSearch in the UK and Europe). He recently joined Steer Davies Gleave’s new Integrated Economic Development Unit based in Manchester, UK

Mark’s experience spans public policy, heading-up an international science and research collaboration facilitation unit, and establishing and running a government policy think tank. His public policy work has focused on on science and innovation policy and on the management of uncertainty and risk. He has also fostered industry-academic collaboration and worked on industry technology strategy issues. Much of this experience covers the UK/Europe and Australia. He has a reputation as an effective strategist, creative and trusted advisor to governments and as a senior executive capable of delivering complex and politically sensitive missions. Mark also has previous experience in a number of consulting companies, including establishing and running his own small consulting business.

Research affiliations: University Fellow, Northern Institute, Charles Darwin University (Australia), and; Adjunct Associate Professor, Crawford School of Public Policy, Australian National University.

Mark is now based permanently in Sheffield (UK).
